Belgian carpet manufacturer Balta Home is planning to cut 529 jobs as part of a major restructuring, according to a report by the newspaper DW. The sites in Sint-Eloois-Vijve and Sint-Baafs-Vijve would be affected, where the production of yarn, as well as the weaving and finishing of carpets, is to be discontinued.
The company cited a continued decline in demand and sharply rising costs as reasons for the cuts. Parts of the production are to be relocated to Turkey, while administration and logistics would remain in Belgium.
