Union joined VME on 1 January 2021; Wülfing had already moved into the management of the enlarged group on 1 September 2020.
Founded in the German city of Bielefeld in 1964, Einrichtungspartnerring VME currently has around 200 shareholder companies operating some 400 furniture stores across several European countries. For 2025, the cooperative reported centrally regulated purchasing volume of €1.37 billion and an annual surplus of €11.5 million. Alongside Wülfing, the group's management includes chief executive Frank Stratmann and fellow purchasing director Jens Westerwelle.
