The German e-commerce sector continued its recovery in the second quarter of 2026. According to the German E-Commerce and Distance Selling Trade Association (bevh), sales increased by 5.1 per cent compared to the same period last year. However, not all product categories benefited equally from this positive trend. The home furnishing segment lagged significantly behind the overall market, with sales growth of just 2.7 per cent. In particular, furnishings, lamps and decorative items saw a decline of 2.1 per cent in the second quarter. Thanks to a stronger start to the year, this product group remains slightly up in a half-year comparison. According to Martin Groß-Albenhausen, Deputy Executive Director of bevh, e-commerce has become the most important pillar of German retail in a weak consumer environment. At the same time, online marketplaces and particularly providers from Asia continue to gain market share.
