The furniture retail industry mourns the loss of Peter Segmüller, who passed away last Wednesday after a short, serious illness at the age of 83. During his active years, he was responsible for marketing, purchasing, sales, finance and human resources – and was known for his ability to “inspire people, listen to them and bring them along. His conversations were always marked by charm, intelligence and subtle humour,” the company stated.
A true business visionary, Peter Segmüller left a lasting mark on the German furniture industry. Although rarely in the public spotlight, he was all the more influential in shaping the furniture empire he built together with his brothers Hans and Paul. Under their leadership, a small upholstered furniture manufacturer developed into a retail group employing around 4,000 people today.
Early on, Peter Segmüller was regarded as a forward thinker in the industry. In 1980, the company set new standards with its first large furniture store in Friedberg – at the time with 15,000 square metres of retail space (today 50,000), a full product range and bold advertising. Today, Segmüller operates seven furniture stores across Germany.
