E-commerce strong even after the lockdowns

Although there are hardly any Corona restrictions in bricks-and-mortar retail now, e-commerce in Germany continues to soar – even after the last lockdown has ended. According to the industry association BEVH, online retail revenues in the third quarter of 2021 were EUR 22.194 billion. Compared to the same period last year, this is an increase of 14.8 %. With the exception of teleshopping (-16.6 %)), all sales types were up by double digits compared to the third quarter of 2020: multichannel (+21.2%), pure online retailers (+11.5%), online marketplaces (+15.3%) and the industry's digital direct business (+20.5 %). This also applies to the product groups house and home textiles (EUR 346 million, +10.2%), DIY products/flowers (EUR 878 million, +30.1%) and furniture/lamps/decoration (EUR 1.406 billion, +16.1%).
