Christian Fischbacher: Flowers and art on chenille flat weave
The new Prêt à Porter collection of carpet maker Christian Fischbacher combines cotton chenille with novelty yarns in an elaborate jacquard weave that gives the flatweave a highly tactile surface. Some carpets are transfer printed as a refinement.
The collection spans six designs ranging in tone from subtle to richly vibrant. The Estival design recalls the watercolour flowers and leaves of Mexican art, while Celestial brings out countless stars and constellations. Then there’s Interfloral, featuring giant flowers in precise detail, and Lisboa – inspired by Portuguese floor tiles. Linares is a design of wavy lines that recall a river bed, and last but not least is Fiesta, with superimposed colour zones.
All rugs are Oeko-Tex certified and come in the four standard sizes of 140 x 200 cm, 170 x 240 cm, 200 x 280 cm and 240 x 340 cm.
Rezas: Dense virgin wool handloom rugs – unicolour or with gradient
The Panorama collection by Rezas – rugs of densely thick handloom-woven virgin wool pile – has been “a complete success” since its launch in 2017, available in single colours with light mottling as well as contemporary colour gradient designs. Now Rezas is adding several more cosy tones to both the unicolour and gradient product variants, with further plans to introduce round Panorama rugs and offer custom measurements.
In the words of Rezas owner Reza Rejaye: “Panorama is a collection of top-quality handloom rugs. We exclusively use high-quality virgin wool and take particular care in processing it.”
Zollanvari: Intensive Farben, lebhafte Designs
A while ago, some providers limited themselves to brown-to-beige tones, but Zollanvari has always been unrestrained when it comes to colour. Cheery and lively additions to the company’s Gabbehs Abstract & Plain and Gabbehs Flora & Fauna product lines were presented in the digital edition of Parisian trade show Maison & Objet. Starting with “Kaleidoscope”, with bold colours and expressive, kaleidoscopic patterns, and the Naïf Collection – a “child’s-eye” reinterpretation of nomadic rugs with stylised animals and plants. Then there’s “The Name of the Rose”, featuring a large, naturalistic rose blossom, and the Kyoto Shibori and Kyoto Kasuri designs with a distinctly Japanese feel.
Manfred Barfuss: Hand-woven rugs made of recycled PET bottles
Manfred Barfuss’ Pro Natura Collection comprises hand-knotted (Eco Rug, Eco Shaggy), hand-tufted (Eco Loop) and hand-woven (Summertime) rugs made of a wool-like yarn derived from recycled PET bottles.
The Summertime product is hand-woven in India in a variety of very natural-looking yet vibrant shades. Usable on both sides both indoors and outdoors, these easy-care rugs are very popular with the public, according to Barfuss, and come in three sizes: 80 x 75 cm, 130 x 190 cm and 160 x 230 cm. Retailers can also make use of a special Summertime Box for presenting rolled up carpets at the POS, which is part of Manfred Barfuss’ ingeniously thought-out Pro Natura store concept.
Paulig: Shimmering surfaces, colour melanges
The Star Collection of Paulig Teppiche: silky, shimmering viscose and virgin wool. Paulig has launched a new and very flat flatweave line: Star Moda, with viscose wrapped delicately around lightly coloured woolen yarn, creating a subtly changing surface. The products are available in 18 colour combinations.
The Star Atoll line rugs are made of densely thick wool yarn interwoven with Star yarn that casts a delicate sheen, creating a catchy, intriguing look. The viscose yarn for combining with the taupe-hued wool weft thread can be unicolour or bi-colour. Star Atoll rugs come in all 18 colours of the Star Collection, and like Star Moda are available up to a weaving width of 600 cm.
Beat Tamoure is an allover design with casually distributed horizontal pattern elements and fine colour accents. The characteristic black warps of the Beat Collection accentuate the tones of the melange yarns, and the very flat woven structure of these rugs makes them ideal for entrances and dining areas. The Beat Tamoure E 125/62 product comes in all colours of the Beat Collection, and is available in weave widths up to 400 cm.
Tom Tailor/Theo Keller: Funky Orient – hardwearing chenille carpets
Oriental patterns are cool. At Tom Tailor they are funky, too – thanks to the contemporary colours with which the Funky Orient collection combines them, turning them into fashion statements.
Tabriz, Heriz or Keshan patterns, woven from soft chenille yarn and slightly modified, appear in shades such as grey, turquoise, gold or rosewood. The fine weave structure allows for a detailed patterning and is very durable at the same time. So Funky Orient also fits wonderfully into the dining area – and into the living area anyway. The collection is now available from Theo Keller, directly from stock.
Theko Deluxe / Theo Keller: Tibetan mythology, made to measure
Dragons, flowers, cloud bands: traditional designs from Tibetan mythology also work really well in combination with modern furnishings. The Dhingri Wool made-to-measure series is a new addition to the Theo Keller's high-end range Theko Deluxe.
The mystically expressive and very durable carpets are hand-knotted in Nepal from pure new wool (80 knots) – in bespoke measurements. The special dyeing process makes for a vivid play of colours in the pile.
Balta Home: The carpet in the box
What looks like a pizza box and does not take up any more space is the shipping packaging for Balta Home's current foldable carpet rage: Rewind is an indoor-outdoor flatweave made of recycled yarn, which is obtained from old plastic bottles; Refold is an indoor low-pile carpet made of recycled polyester and cotton. Both qualities can be easily folded and can therefore be shipped at a much lower cost than rolled up – which also makes it easier to store them.
Retailers who sell Rewind, Refold or other Balta Home carpets online will receive high-resolution photo material, product videos and descriptions as well as pictograms which emphasize the product advantages. Balta Home also offers dropshipping.
AKO - Kolckmann: Plasticiser-free, with improved slip protection
Sometimes life pulls the rug out from under your feet. Ako Kolckmann specializes in making sure that this won't happen: The broad anti-slip matting programme ensures that carpets stay safely in place, no waves form and nobody stumbles.
The family business's latest development is called Ako Prima, a glass yarn fabric coated with acrylic foam (registered utility patent). Especially on all smooth floors made of wood, tiles, laminate, stone or vinyl, the mats offer a considerably improved slip protection.
The underlay is manufactured in Germany and, according to the company, is free of plasticizers, odourless and consists of harmless materials. It can also be used under short-pile carpets, is washable and easy to cut.
Explorug / Alternative Technology: Trying out custom-made rugs before ordering
Custom-order rugs offer personalized possibilities, as they can be adapted exactly to the rooms of the prospective customer according to their wishes. However, the custom rugs cannot be "tried out" before purchase, since these have to be made first. This is exactly why some prospective customers are hesitant: Should they still order and take the residual risk that the rug will not look that good in their rooms after all?
