Lenzing: Recycling 2.0 with Refibra technology

Information
Carpet manufacturers have been using Tencel branded lyocell fibres by Lenzing for several years now. These cellulose fibres are obtained from the renewable raw material wood in an environmentally responsible process. Materials made of 100% Tencel fibres are completely biodegradable and can therefore be returned to nature – a closed loop.

With its latest Refibra technology, Lenzing is now presenting a development that takes recycling one step further: in addition to cellulose, Refibra also incorporates considerable quantities of pre- and post-consumer cotton waste into the cycle. The resulting fibres have the same properties as the tried and tested Tencel fibres, so they are just as suitable for carpets and just as biodegradable. Also, the smooth surface of Tencel Lyocell fibres enable color dyes to penetrate deeply into the fibre structure, resulting in impressive color brilliance.

Thanks to their good moisture management Tencel Lyocell fibers with or without Refibra technology have less available moisture formed on the surface. "This reduces the growth of bacteria, and moths don't feel at home here either," says Lenzing.
